Where is it held?

The event takes place in the vicinity of the town of Dospat. All distances start and finish in the town center.

About the town and the area

The town emerged as an important strategic medieval fortress in the 13th century. The fortress was built by despot Alexius Slav - a relative of the Asen dynasty and a faithful nobleman to Tsar Ivan Asen II. It is assumed that he gave the name Dospat to the city from an old Rhodope meaning "Dos" - friend and "pat" - road: "Friend of the road," which remained unchanged even during the centuries of Ottoman rule. Probably in connection with the name of the nobleman, for many years the forests around Dospat were called Slaveevi forests.
